A Luxury safari experience at Hamiltons Tented Camp

Hamilton’s Lodge is a  5-star luxury-tented safari lodge surrounded by ancient trees and wildlife in the Big Five Kruger National Park. It is decorated in Colonial style, the luxury tents feature private verandas overlooking the seasonal river.

Each of the six sumptuous spaces has picture windows, with beautiful teak floorboards. The air-conditioned tents of Hamiltons Tented Camp are furnished with pieces that remind of the safaris of the early 20th century.

Their beds are draped with dreamy mosquito nets and the bathrooms feature a free-standing romantic slipper bath. Each tent has an outside shower, a spacious private veranda with a private plunge pool, and your private sala lounge. Your private luxury tent comes with a hospitality cabinet that includes a mini bar and you have a private butler service.

 

What is the closest airport to Hamiltons Tented Camp

You have 3 options:

1: There is a daily flight from OR Tambo International Airport to Skukuza Airport. You then get a transfer to the Camp which is 65km and takes about 90 minutes to drive through the Park.

2: There is a daily flight from OR Tambo International Airport to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport. Your transfer takes about 1h30 minutes to the camp, however 45km is through Kruger Park.

3: Federal Air flies directly to Manyeleti Airstip. This airstrip is very close to the camp.

Why stay at Hamiltons Tented Camp?

Hamilton’s Tented Camp is one of the best places to stay in Kruger National Park. It is a small game lodge with tented accommodation. Access to the camp is on good roads, although the last 50 km is on good gravel roads accessible to all vehicles.

You can visit Kruger National Park in your vehicle in between the morning and afternoon game drives. Satara Rest Camp is an hour’s drive from the lodge. There are many picnic sites in the area you can also visit to expand your Kruger Park experience. It is possible to do a day trip to the Panorama Route or the Blyde Canyon Dam.

Hamiltons Tented Camp is located within the private 10,000-hectare concession of Mluwati in the western region of the Kruger National Park, near Orpen Rest Camp. It borders the northern Sabi Sands Game Reserve and Manyeleti Game Reserve.

You may not drive off-road in Kruger National Park, but because Hamiltons Tented Camp is a private concession, your ranger is permitted to drive off-road the open safari game viewer. This means you can get much closer to the animal sightings and improve your chances of great photographic opportunities, especially the Big5 (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant). birding is also a must. If you have your transport, you can do a self-drive safari in Kruger Park. Hamiltons Camp is an easy drive to Satara Rest Camp and various picnic sites.

Is Hamilton’s Tented Camp accessible?

Access is very easy on tar and gravel roads, accessible by all sedans. You can also fly to Skukuza Airport (63 km away) or Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (115 km away) and get a transfer to Hamiltons Lodge.

Their open-vehicle safari vehicles are allowed off-road, enabling you to get closer to the live-action. With easy access to Kruger National Park, you could do a self-drive safari from the Lodge. This option allows you to see more game in between your game drives at the camp.

What to Wear on a Safari

A safari dress code does not have to be complicated. It is recommended that you wear neutral colors, and don’t wear bright colors like red, yellow, or purple. Always have a sun hat and bring along sunblock. The African sun can be harsh. During winter it can be quite cool – +3 degrees so bring along something warm to wear in the early morning game drives and for the late afternoon drive. During the summer months wear clothing that is light and breezy.

Getting there by Air

SA Express flies to Hoedspruit every day from OR Tambo Airport and from Cape Town Airport. Both flights are direct flights. Transfers can be arranged from the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport to the Camp or you can hire a car from the airport. Click here for more information.

Getting there by car

By Car – Hamiltons Tented Camp is in Kruger Park. You can reach the camp through the Paul Kruger Gate if you are driving via Nelspruit or through the Orpen Gate if you driving through Hoedspruit and the Panorama Route.
