The HWE is completely fenced in with a security fence monitored 24/7 and patrolled by dedicated Security personnel stationed at the access-controlled entrance gate.
The property owner must pre-arrange for all guests to the HWE, and an access code will be sent to them. Security is provided by Syncro Dynamics Security.
What animals are on the
Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate?
The Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate has a dedicated Green Belt where animals roam freely. The animals can also walk between the houses as they are not fenced off. You can drive through the Green Belt. There is also 18km of single track through the Green Belt where you can cycle or walk and find game roaming around. The following mammals can be seen.
Kudu, impala, nyala, duiker, bushbuck, warthog, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, porcupine, squirrels, mongoose, monkeys, baboon, rabbits, hares, waterbuck, black-backed jackals. Leopards and hyenas are also seen on the estate. They come across from the game reserve next door.
Birding on the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate Hoedspruit offers plenty of photographic opportunities. There are over 200 birds on the bird list, Babblers, Bee-eaters, Bulbul, Doves, Fish eagles, Goshawks, Hamerkops, Kingfishers, Oriole, Owls, Shrikes, Sparrows, Starlings, Sunbirds, Barbets, and Weavers. MTB and Running Trails & e-bike hire
There is an 18 km marked single-track route around the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate where you can enjoy the freedom of cycling, walking, or running amongst the free-roaming wildlife. An e-bike can be hired to ride around the Estate.

Dams on the HWE
There are three dams on the HWE. The Heron Dam and Hamerkop Dam are on the creek that runs through the Estate and Fish Eagle Dam is at the eastern end of the Estate. Bird life around these dams is excellent and animals come down to the water’s edge daily to drink. You are not allowed to swim in the dams but fishing – catch and release – is allowed..

There are no restaurants on the HWE. Most lodges offer breakfast and some do dinner, however, if you ask the lodge to prepare dinner, they normally oblige if sufficient notice is given. Shops near Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate
The HWE has no shops within the estate. At the entrance gate, the Pick n Pay shopping center is on the left-hand side as you leave the estate. This center has restaurants (Spur), a bottle store (Pick n Pay), banking facilities (FNB, Standard and Capitec Bank), clothing (Pick n Pay, Pep, Mr. Price), and many more shopping opportunities. If you need something specific, ask at the lodge.
Kamogelo Tourist Centre
In Hoedspruit town, there are many other smaller shops. There is also a Tourist Centre with three restaurants (Stoned Olive, Hoedspruit Cafe, and Kalimambo), clothing stores (Izit, Senqu, Opio Loa, Fern Ladies Boutique), African curios, jewelry shops (Gold of Africa), a second-hand bookstore, a leather shop, and a camera shop. There is a tourist information office at Fern boutique, Shop 18 next to the FM Radio Station.
