Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate is situated in the quaint town of Hoedspruit in Limpopo Province South Africa. Security at Hoedspruit

Wildlife Estate

The HWE is completely fenced in with a security fence that is monitored 24/7 and patrolled by a dedicated team of Security personnel stationed at the access-controlled entrance gate. All guests to the HWE have to be pre-arranged by the owner of the property and an access code will be sent to the guests. Security is provided by Syncro Dynamics Security.

Birds and mammals on HWE

The following are some of the mammals that are found on the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate:

Kudu, impala, nyala, duiker, bushbuck, warthog, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, porcupine, squirrels, mongoose, monkeys, baboon, rabbits, hares, waterbuck, jackals. Leopards are also seen at night. They come across from the game reserve next door.

There are over 200 birds on the bird list, Babblers, Bee-eaters, Bulbul, Doves, Fish eagles, Goshawks, Hamerkops, Kingfishers, Oriole, Owls, Shrikes, sparrows, Starlings, Sunbirds, and Weavers. for a comprehensive list of birds click here

Wildlife Estate

MTB and Running Trails & e-bike hireHWE MTB

HWE Trail Run

There is an 18 km marked single-track route around the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate where you can enjoy the freedom of cycling, walking, or running amongst the free-roaming wildlife. An e-bike can be hired to ride around the Estate. You must however be a resident or guest on the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate to be able to ride these routes. Walking Safari

You can walk freely around the HWE on your own, but if you would prefer a guided safari walk, your lodge will be able to arrange this.

Horse Riding

HWE Horse Trails

There is an equestrian center near the entrance of the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. Horse ride on horse trails and gravel roads while game viewing. for more information click here

Birding and Bird Hides

There are 2 bird hides on the HWE, one at Hamerkop Dam and the other at Fish Eagle Dam. You can also walk around freely in the Green Belt while looking for birds. For a comprehensive list of birds on the Estate click here

Game Viewing

Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate Game Drives. There is an extensive road network on the HWE where you can do a self-drive safari at leisure looking for wildlife. Organized safari game drives can be arranged by your lodge.

Star Gazing

Due to the low level of lighting on the HWE, star gazing is always impressive. Many of the lodges have star-gazing equipment to enhance your experience.

Dams

There are three dams on the HWE. The Heron Dam and Hamerkop Dam are on the creek that runs through the Estate and Fish Eagle Dam is at the bottom of the Estate. Bird life around these dams is very good and animals come down to the water’s edge every day to drink. You are not allowed to swim in the dams.

Restaurants on the HWE

Keystone Cafe

There are no restaurants on the HWE. Most of the lodges offer breakfast and some do dinner as well, however, if you ask the lodge to prepare dinner, they normally oblige if sufficient notice is given. Shops near Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate

The HWE has no shops within the actual estate. There is however a Pick n Pay shopping centre on the left-hand side as you leave the estate. This center has restaurants, bottle stores, banking facilities, and many more shopping opportunities. If you need something specific, ask at the lodge.

In Hoedspruit town, there are many other smaller shops. There is also a Tourist Centre that has 5 restaurants, clothing stores, a ladies’ clothing boutique, African curios, jewelry shops, a second-hand bookstore, and a camera shop.
