What must I pack for the 3-night safari?

Early Morning Game Drives

The morning game drive starts just before sunrise, so it can get rather chilly before the sun comes up. Temperatures can drop as low as 3 degrees Celsius (37F) so bring along a hat or beanie, jacket or jersey, hand gloves, and a scarf.

During the day

Temperatures can reach 30 degrees Celsius (86F) during the mid-day, so bring along cool and light clothing. Bring along sun cream or sunblock to protect you from the hot sun during the day.

Late Afternoon Game Drives

The temperature can drop a lot once the sun goes down on your afternoon safari game drive. Bring along some warm clothing. Temperatures can drop as low as 10 degrees Celsius (50F) in the early evening.

Photographic equipment

A camera is a must. However, you don’t need a fancy camera with a big lens to capture your wildlife moment. While a camera with a powerful lens is always nice to have, a simple Power Shot camera with a fixed lens will work well, as will a cell phone camera.

A good pair of binoculars is a great investment, especially when looking for birds in shrubs or trees.

Don’t forget to bring along a spare battery for your camera if you plan on taking lots of photos. Don’t forget a spare sim card for your camera if you plan on taking lots of photos.

There are many photographic opportunities from your luxury suite, so don’t forget to bring along a camera Tripod and camera Bean Bag so that you can take photos from your viewing deck.

How do I get to my Safari lodge?

Self-drive: this is a great option as you will be able to explore Kruger National Park with an easy day drive to Satara Rest Camp. Drive to the Timbavati or Tshokwane Picnic sites for a scenic wildlife drive.

The camps are near Orpen Gate in the Kruger National Park, near Hoedspruit town. The roads in the park are accessible in a normal sedan.

Fly-In: Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport has daily direct flights from Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport and Cape Town International Airport. Transfers can be arranged from the airport to the lodge, or you can hire a vehicle.

Private Transfers: Transfers can be arranged from OR Tambo Airport directly to the lodge, or from any other destination to the lodge.

Is the Lodge in a malaria-free area?

The 3 lodges are in a low-risk malaria area. It is however advisable to take a can of mosquito repellent with you. Spray yourself before the sun sets. Most lodges have stock of mosquito repellent in their curio shop or supply a free can in your luxury suite.
