Activity Description

This flight takes 1 hour. It includes a flight over the Blyde River Dam and above the Blyde River Canyon with a great view of the Three Rondawels and returns to Hoedspruit to include approximately 10-15 minutes of game viewing over the Big 5 reserves near Hoedspruit. On your microlight flight, you’ll see for miles as you whizz above the ground and might be lucky enough to spot game, including the Big Five, as it’s much easier to see animals from the air. At the end of your microlight flight, you’ll have a unique perspective on this beautiful part of the country.

You have the option to sit and experience the flight and view the game or you can have hands-on experience from the first flight should you so wish. The choice is yours.

Arrangements

Duration: 1 hour
When: Early mornings are best for this activity. However, should the weather allow, the flight can be done at other times of the day.
Where: Hangar 2, Hoedspruit Civil Airfield, 53B Koedoe Street, Hoedspruit, Limpopo (next to Spar Supermarket)
Weather: We will contact you if the weather is not up to scratch.
What to Wear: Comfortable clothes, bring a Jacket if you get cold quickly.

Guests or Spectators: Friends or family can wait at the Hangar for you and have coffee while they wait, go to the coffee shop across the street, or take a stroll around the shops in town.

1-hour flight – Olifants River from R3150 per person

Activity Description

This one-hour microlight flight takes off from Hoedspruit in the Limpopo province towards the Olifants River over Big Five game reserves in the area. You’ll get spectacular views of the surrounding countryside as you soar through the air. Once you reach the Olifants River, you’ll follow its course.

Spotting game from the air is much easier than on the ground, so you’re sure to see many animals on your microlight flight. After a while, you’ll turn around and head back to Hoedspruit, but your microlight flight doesn’t end there. Enjoy the views and game-spotting back until you land.

You have the option to sit and experience the flight and view the game or you can have hands-on experience from the first flight should you so wish. The choice is yours.

At the base of the striking Klein Drakensberg is Hoedspruit, home to this exciting 1-hour microlight flight experience. This one-hour microlight flight travels over Big Five game reserves and gives you a view of the magnificent Limpopo landscape in an area favored for its superb weather all year round.

So board the microlight flight and enjoy the jam-packed hour trip. The braver microlight flight travelers can even get some hands-on experience. With a bird’s-eye view of the plains and wild animals that inhabit it, this microlight flight is an unrivaled wildlife experience. It normally includes flying over the Big Five game farms in the area towards the Olifants River and following the Olifants River for a short while before returning for further game viewing over Big 5 game reserves in the area. Good chances of seeing 3 of the Big 5 but the elusive leopard and lion are difficult to find. Game to see could include buffalo, lion (occasionally), elephant, rhino, hippo, and plains game such as wildebeest, giraffe, warthogs, zebra, and impala.

A 10-minute trip is an affordable and excellent introduction for those who’ve never tried a microlight flight, or who want an overview of a particular place. So board your microlight flight and be flown by experienced pilots who will show you a side of striking Hoedspruit many will never see.

On a 20-minute microlight flight, you will experience the thrill of soaring above the ground near Hoedspruit in Limpopo province. A short microlight flight is the perfect way to get a taste of what it’s like. You can let an experienced pilot take control, or you can have a hand in flying yourself.

If you’re very lucky, you might even spot wild game from the air, including members of the Big Five. Microlight flights offer a unique perspective on game-viewing – you’ll see animals in a way you never have before. If you enjoy it, you can opt for longer microlight flights.
