Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate

MTB Trails

There is a 21 km mountain bike cycle path through Green Belt (dedicated nature wildlife section) on the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. There is a Green Route and a shorter and easier Blue Route. The single track is not very technical and can easily be ridden by all levels of MTB riders.

Running Trails

Trail runners can also use the same route for the MTB riders. There are 25 km of gravel roads through the Green Belt that you can use for Trail Running while viewing the wildlife that roams around freely on the Wildlife Estate

Walking Trails

If you don’t want to use the MTB routes, there are about 20 km of gravel roads where you can walk and enjoy the game that roams freely on the HWE

Horseback Trails

Enjoy a horseback safari on the HWE. They offer a 1-hour trial at R420.00 per person and a 2-hour trial at R750 per person. For more information and bookings click here

Mariepskop Nature Reserve

Mariepskop is the highest point of the northern Drakensberg mountains on the border of Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. At 1945 meters above sea level, the views from here are spectacular. You can self-drive to the top with a vehicle with high clearance. It is not advisable to travel to the top if there have been recent rains. The Panorama Route self-drive or guided

The Panorama Route is a full-day outing. With spectacular views from God’s Window, the Three Rondawels, Blyde Canyon Dam, 7 different waterfalls, Graskop Gorge, and Zipline, you will be kept busy all day. A visit to the Historical mining town of Pilgrims Rest is a must. On your way back to Hoedspruit, stop over at the curio stall next to the JG Strydom Tunnel. Get out of your car and have a look down at the valley below and the yellow moss growing on the rocks towering above the valley. For more information on this route click here

Blyde Dam and Blyde Canyon

Blyde Dam

The Blyde Canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. Blyde Dam (often referred to as Hoedspruit Dam) was built in the 1970s to service the growing number of citrus farmers below the Blyde River Canyon. There are many waterfalls in the Hoedspruit area. There are 5 waterfalls on the Panorama Route.

The Klaserie waterfall at Mariepskop and, the Blyde Dam waterfall in the Blyde Nature Reserve are both worth a visit.

Picnic Sites in Hoedspruit

Blyde Dam – a picnic and braai site at the Blyde Dam next to the Interpretation Centre.

Klaserie Dam – pay as a day visitor and have a braai or picnic. You can also fish at the dam.

Mariepskop – there are three places where you can have a picnic. The two sites are on the way to the top of the mountain and the other side overlooks the valley below.

You can always get a full-day safari to Kruger National Park, however, if you don’t have the time, you can always do a morning or evening guided safari game drive at Pridelands Game Reserve or Khaya Ndlovu Game Reserve, both just outside Hoedspruit.
